Strange Coincidence?

As some of you know, I do a music podcast show at www.snojoradio.com. I know I have listeners, but just how many, I haven’t a clue. I have already had one strange incident early on when I just started it and had only a handful of shows up. I was driving the bus on one of the routes that skirt the Microsoft Campus in Redmond. A guy got on wearing a full set of headphones and sat in the seat just to the other side of the aisle from my drivers seat. He was a typical Microsoft geek, of a foreign land, and even had a pocket protector in his shirt pocket. He was holding an extra large rubik’s cube and was listening to music so loud I could hear it even though the headphones fully covered his ears. As I drove along, something sounded familiar about the music blaring from the headphones. Soon I discovered it was one of the songs I had played on one of my shows! I thought this strange since I play very unique and not easy to find music. It is something you will not find on the radio that’s for sure. As I listened to the song come to an end, the next one started playing and it was another song I had played on my show. I almost had a coronary when I realized he was listening to one of my podcasts, number five to be exact. I got his attention and asked him what he was listening to. He seemed annoyed and bothered by my request and just said it was music he had downloaded from the internet. I persisted and asked him what it was and he said it was some podcast he got turned on to by someone in his work group at Microsoft. Just by chance, I had a card in my wallet for my podcast and dug it out and showed it to him and asked him if that was it. He said it was!!! I freaked!!! I then said it was me who did the podcast. He was unimpressed which deflated my balloon a bit! But I was elated to discover that all 45 people in his work group listen to my podcast….among others.

Fast forward to today and 30 some shows later. Recently I was watching an episode of CSI Miami. If you watch the show, they usually play some very cool music during one of their intense lab scenes and one they were playing was one that was on one of my newest shows. As a matter of fact I know the exact track, Drive It Like You Stole It by The Glitch Mob. I thought it was pretty cool and I might add, it was on my show first! Today I went on a run with some of my newest shows loaded up in my MP3 player. One of those shows was the one that had that track on it, as a matter of fact, that track opens the show. As the tracks played one by one, I stumbled on another track that I seemed to have heard on CSI just recently also. I vaguely remember thinking while watching it, that the music sounded familiar but at the time I didn’t put it together! Now I had a revelation that two tracks off the same podcast had recently been played on two different episodes of CSI Miami! Again I will add that my show was out before each of those episodes! When I got back to the house I unsuccessfully tried to find some sort of music credits on CSI Miami. Struck out on Wikipedia, and also IMDB. I even went to the show page on CBS and found zilch! Oh well it might be just a coincidence after all, but I am ecstatic that what I (a 51 year old rocker) am playing on my music podcast seems very, very relevant! If someone from the show is listening to my podcast, I am quite flattered and very proud of what I do!

My Music Podcast

snojo4My music podcast is blowing minds across the country and around the world, but I bet you are still listening to commercial top 40 crap aren’t you!? I mean really, how many times can you hear “Stairway To Heaven” or “Free Bird” anyway? Come to the edge and expand your auditory horizons! Be different – I DARE YOU TO! Prepared to have your mind entranced, prepare to have your body moving, prepare yourself for music that is for your head and will get into your head. Come on over and have a listen and if you like what you hear, tell a friend! Thanks for listening!

Just a blurb on my hobby of podcasting, my Snoqualmie Joe podcast continues pretty strongly. I have been posting shows pretty regularly the last month or two. Considering what is regular is anyones opinion. I have two more in the bag right now that will be posted soon. If you listen regularly or occasionally, you’ll know that it is centered on my local area and what is happening here. It is a fun hobby and many people know me from what I do. My latest podcasts have centered on new businesses opening up here in Snoqualmie Ridge. One newest addition to our business community is a music store which opened this Saturday. Hopefully I will be podcasting with them soon, but they had their grand opening Saturday and it was quite festive. Davey French, guitarist for the band Everclear, was in store jamming on guitars and meeting  people. He and his lovely wife and son live up here on the Ridge, and when not on tour, he will be teaching guitar at the store. He is a very personable guy and a very good guitarist!

Now on a more technical note, Podshow sucks. You’ll probably not know what I am talking about from here on in,  but I have to post it in hopes it gets logged by the bots. I am so stretched in my endeavors that I need some ways to stream line ways of getting things done. One of my attempts was to get my Snoqualmie Joe show into Podshow. The way to do it when you already have a show and feed is to use the Podshow Vacuum Feed option. What  this is supposed to do is bring in your feed code and convert it into a Podshow feed. Simple an easy, except I cannot figure out how to insert the feed code into my enclosure url and exactly where to put it. Many attempts to get Podshow tech support to guide me have failed totally. I have even called the Daily Source Code hosted by the Podfather Adam Curry and cannot get any response. He is part of Podshow for Christ sake. So to you Adam Curry and Podshow………. a big FUCK YOU! He’ll know exactly what I mean by that!

Is This Blogging?

Well here I sit with a glass of chardonnay, some low fat wheat thins, a nose full of snot, and my little buddy Simon by my side. Simon is my cat and we are holding down the estate…… just us guys. Debbie, my wife is away on business. No…. there are no big parties, no ex-girlfriends coming by, no cigar smoking poker games being held either. Just a 48 year old guy with a cold and his cat figuring out the world of blogging. How am I doing so far? Bored crap-less by now? Hopefully I will get better at this. After all, I did no preparation as to what I was going to write for my first post. It is coming off the top of my balding cranium as the words hit the screen. My name is Joe Givens, Snoqualmie Joe to some. I am a bus driver for the public transit system for the Seattle area. I have two podcasts, Snoqualmie Joe and The Boat Virgins, and I am also a Green Bay Packer Fan. My hobbies include golfing, boating, running, travel, and lots of eating and drinking. My ideal date is…………. oops, forgot that this wasn’t a personal ad even though it sounds like it. I am an opinionated fat ass blowing alot of air and is this blogging? Am I a blogger now? Yippppeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! What next?

My wife Debbie and I have been married almost 15 years and we live in a small but growing town nestled next to the Cascade Mountains called Snoqualmie. We are recently empty nesters and are enjoying our new found privacy. Debbie has two sons from a previous marriage Ryan and Alex and you’ll learn more about them later. For now I am closing this introductory post as the time is getting late and I am getting pumpkinesque. Is that a word? You get it don’t you? Don’t be a dumb ass. Simon is beckoning me to bed and I am obliged to go. Until next time……..blog this!!!!
